For my son, Tyler

I stole this from my sis. If there’s one thing I want my son to know, it’s this:
If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.

I had Tyler for the entire week because he was ill and couldn’t go to school. While he was awfully ill with a 103+ temperature, we spent a great week together talking and playing and just being with one another. There is no stronger bond than between a father and his son–unconditional love.

While it’s always painful saying goodbye after a weekend together, I miss him even more right now as I type…I miss you buddy.

I pray to God that Tyler grows up to be stronger, braver, and smarter than I’ve ever been.

P90x

All I can say is soreness…I finally gathered the courage to pop in the first DVD and I have to say, it’s insane! The amount of reps and the flexibility required to do some of the moves literally wiped me out. What’s even harder than the exercises is the eating part. For the fitness goals that I want to achieve, I have to eat 5 meals equating to roughly 2,600 calories a day. A typical day would be:
Breakfast: 8 egg whites w/ veggies, 3 pieces of turkey bacon, 3oz of cottage cheese
Snack: Protein bar
Lunch: Chicken salad
Snack #2: 20 almonds
Dinner: Brocolli and beef stirfry with soba nooodles, veggies, & protein

and I’m suppose to do this for 90 freakin days?? Between prepping the food, finding temporary housing for it, and eating it, where do you find time for exercise? Unfortunately, I wasn’t prepared for the amount of effort required for p90X and I didn’t even last for a week! I’m so weak…but I’ll be back on the wagon and gonna start fresh, right when I get back from my D.C. trip…

Time for a change

My sister Jane reminded me that I still owned a blog…so here I am updating. It’s been a roller coaster ride the past year or so. With everything going on in my life as well as nearing the crest of my 30′s, my body has turned to mush…I was thinking maybe going to the gym but haven’t gotten that far yet. But have you seen this? I haven’t read any bad reviews about P90x except that it’s really intensive and time consuming. I think I’m gonna get it. Maybe tomorrow…

I’m grateful I’m not a worm

Tyler has been asking me some profound questions about God and the universe. One of his many questions were related to why we are humans rather than, say, worms. I thought it was a great question that required a carefully crafted response. I told him straight up that God chose us to be humans and if he didn’t eat all of his dinner, starting tomorrow morning God may change him into a Dung Beetle. But really, why did God choose us to be humans and not a worm and how come I’m not more grateful to be a human being? Haven’t got a clue but I guess that’s where faith kicks in, right?

My challenge this wk: To be grateful for the life God has given me and live it like the worm I’m not!

Eating Shirt

It’s one of those days again…a gray, dowdy day. I enjoy these days. I enjoy these days because it gives me an excuse from being active and not feeling guilty about lounging inside and wearing my “eating” shirt ALL DAY LONG…Yes, eating shirts are the best. Mine is from 1998 with the sleeves cut off and about to disintergrate from the hundreds of washings. Eating shirts have dual purpose–to keep you comfortable and to act as a napkin so the grease doesn’t get on your xbox controller.

I’d take a picture of my beautiful eating shirt but then that would mean being active…

The secret ingredient is…

Tyler asked me if I knew the secret ingredient in his secret ingredient soup. I told him “no” and asked him what it was. His reply was simply “love”.

Lets hit the slopes

We loaded up the truck and set off to tackle the slopes at The Summit at Snoqualmie. The roads up to the mountain weren’t bad and traffic didn’t affect us until we got to the slopes. Never seen so many cars/people willing to brave the weather and pay $45+ to ski Snoqualmie Pass…

This was Tyler’s first time skiing so I enrolled him in a lesson and from the looks of it I think he did just fine… Thanks Patty, Derek, and Diana for coming! Anyone else interested in doing some skiing this year, hit me up! -Brian
